Conversations & Connections!

Conversations & Connections will serve as an interactive forum where people can bring their concerns and share their thoughts, questions, experiences, and hopes for women in the Church.

We will meet two times a year, once in the first week of October and once in the first week of April.

Our first meeting will be Thursday, October 8 at 7pm Eastern. Look for more information and registration here, in our newsletters, and on social media soon!

“From its beginning, the permanent diaconate, modeled on Christ, the supreme servant, was established to serve the Church and wider community, addressing whatever needs emerged at the time. Now, more than ever, the broken Body of Christ and world, needs a strong permanent diaconate to undertake the pastoral work that has sadly too often become neglected in our communities. In the contemporary context, many Orthodox women have obtained professional and theological training and are undertaking diaconal like-work in areas, such as, pastoral care, chaplaincy, teaching and parish council administration. By ordaining female deacons, the Church bestows on them the gift of the Holy Spirit, authenticates their ministry, and signals to the Church the significance of her God-given charisms.

For too long the conversation about restoring and rejuvenating the female diaconate has often been relegated to the academic realm. Thank you, St Phoebe Center for opening up the discussion to a wider audience and raising much needed awareness within our parish communities. Thank you also to your network for connecting me to many gifted women, who deeply love their Orthodox faith and regardless of the struggles, remain committed to a ministry of service.”
